Until the privileged position of humans as the only subjects with consciousness, intentionality, and relational life is questioned, it is unlikely that other species will make it onto the list of marginalized Others (e.g. racial Others, for instance).


As long as knowledge-making is considered to be the purview of humans alone (see Harvey, 2006a, 2006b), and rationality the dominant and privileged way of knowing (see Bonnett, 2004; Ezzy, 2004; Stirling, 2007; Wallis, 2000), the many voices of animate Earth will, at worst, continue to be excluded, or at best, remain unacknowledged, in research and other meaning making processes.
