what's in the way of change?
To research and represent this text as I do, has required (re)inscribing many of my own subjectivities in terms of what it means to be a graduate student, academic, and human. Particularly significant has been the need to (re)inscribe or in some cases, erase, discourses that suggested non-human persons do or cannot engage in what are assumed to be essentially human research process.
By asking the
question, "What am I not willing to let go of?" one can simultaneously identify and
challenge that which is treasured, and
perhaps move closer
to identifying assumptions and the associated discourses
that might be in the way of change. What happens, for example, when it is the privileged place of the human intellect, or understanding of material reality, that
one is asked
