politics of speech

Given the politics of identity politics, I have been very cautious about what I have been saying about my dissertation processes. The many (both subtle and explicit) messages of caution I received from those in the academy (and elsewhere) have certainly slowed down the process of being able to write and speak explicitly about this project. "Speaking my heart" seemed particularly dangerous territory as I was trying to finish this work and come to speech, at the same time that I was interviewing for jobs. How much could I say?
