meLand complete

meLand became

a physical and

metaphoric space

where I could

simultaneously explore

porosity

and

disrupt the
socially constructed binary

between humans and nature.

Just as in many other parts of the process, it was through my body that I knew meLand was complete. "Hills of Grass," (1999) sung by many of my friends and written by Carolyn McDade in response to her time living in the Qu'Appelle Valley, filled my painting space. My brush hand was working up around the sky when quietly, calmly, it moved to rest, quietly, on the table. She was done.

My mind then kicked in and made a few additions around the edges, filling in the border. Just to make it look good.
