Skepticism regarding the possibility of communication across the socially constructed human/nature binary is a dominant feature of modern Western cultures. Yet this is not the case worldwide (see Abram, 1996; Harvey & Wallis, 2007; for some North American examples of communication across species, see also, Sheldrake, 1999; Sheldrake & Smart, 2000; Smith, 2004, 2006; Montgomery, 2008). Similarly, skepticism about the value of energy work, is not universal.
